    On the morning of September 27th, 2026, Gloucestershire police arrested five men that police believe to have been attempting to break onto RAF Fairford, currently home to a number of US B-1B Lancer bombers. 

    The men were stopped several hundred meters from Crash Gate 6A. Close to the base but not on it, as some reporting has suggested.

    A major incident was declared after the arrest. About 85 households in Whelford were evacuated to a nearby leisure centre, and a 400-metre cordon was placed around the vehicles while the Army’s explosive ordnance disposal team examined them. Officials said they believe the incident is contained. Counter Terrorism Policing is leading the investigation into the men and their motives.

    “I saw a group of Middle Eastern-looking youngguys running off through the trees. Some of them had masks or balaclavas on, and they all scattered ahead of us as we drove back past,” a local farmer told the Daily Telegraph. She continued, “Some of them ran into the fields, and some of them turned to run towards the air base… I mean, you don’t see masked men running around at half one in the morning in the countryside near a secure air base and not have concerns.”

    The local preferred to stay anonymous for safety reasons.

    The men were apprehended outside of the base under the Explosives Act, with EOD examining their vehicles. Broadcast aerial footage from CNN and others has shown EOD robots removing large black items from the back of the van; however, police have not yet confirmed their contents. Other outlets have reported chemicals/explosives, but that hasn’t been confirmed anywhere yet.

    RAF Fairford is home to the 501st Combat Support Wing and has been used by U.S. bombers for missions against Iranian missile infrastructure after London authorised that use earlier in the conflict. A U.S. Air Force spokesperson at the base told CNN that, for operational security reasons, the service would not discuss specific force protection measures. Photographs from Sunday showed at least one B-1B on the tarmac.

    While a motive has not been established, U.S. President Donald Trump said the suspects were “looking to do big damage” and had been “under view for a long time.” However, multiple UK reports contradict this and say the operation to apprehend the men was not intelligence-led and rather started when a member of the public called 999 and voiced their suspicions and concern. Local detectives are reporting that they are investigating any link to Iran, but officers have declined to comment on origin or sponsorship. This is a natural line of question given the base’s importance in U.S. operations during the conflict with Iran, with U.S. bombers flying strike missions from RAF Fairfield to Iran. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps earlier warned that any base used for attacks on Iranian territory would be treated as a legitimate target. Since that threat, the base has been under a heightened security posture. 

    Prime Minister Andy Burnham said the situation would be deeply concerning for local residents and urged the public not to speculate while the investigation continues.

    Update 09/28/2026

    According to the British police, the five men that were arrested were all British nationals from London and all in their early 20s. This morning, they were released on bail pending the completion of the investigation.

    “Thanks to the excellent work of the army’s explosive ordnance disposal team, the scene is now safe, and the residents of Whelford will shortly be returning home,” British interior minister Shabana Mahmood said.

    While nobody has come out and said it, it appears from the wording in the quote above that explosives were discovered at the scene and later handled by the EOD; however, that hasn’t been confirmed yet.

    An investigation is now ongoing to determine if these individuals were acting for a foreign state, unknowingly or else. A common tactic used by intelligence agencies has been to outsource intelligence work by making content with people inside of a country, and then paying them for whatever task they need done. The task starts as things somebody wouldn’t question like delivering a package or taking a picture, and they see how far they can get you to go as the task gets more and more complicated and/ or illegal. There are documented cases of Russia using this tactic in Ukraine and Poland as part of their ongoing hybrid warfare campaign. There is no current connection to Russian intelligence; however, it could be that UK authorities believe a page has been taken out of Russia’s playbook.

  • U.S. forces seize two tankers, one in the Caribbean and one in the Atlantic.

    This morning U.S. forces have seized two tankers. The first, the M/T Marinera (formerly the M/T Bella-1) is a tanker that fled from U.S. forces while trying to get to Venezuela late last month. It has been tailed by a U.S. Coast Guard cutter since around December 17th and was taken somewhere between the UK and Iceland. The second ship is the M/V Sophia which was seized in the Caribbean.

    The seizure of the Marinera doesn’t come as a surprise as a number of analysts, experts and people interested in world events followed along as the U.S. moved Special Forces assets to the UK and the ship attempted to evade U.S. forces for several weeks. It has been under near constant surveillance since it fled from US forces while trying to enter Venezuela in December.

    On social media the U.S. European command put out a statement that said “The vessel was seized in the North Atlantic pursuant to a warrant issued by a U.S. federal court after being tracked by USCGC Munro”

    The USCGC Munro is a Legend-Class National Security Cutter.

    The armed forces in the United Kingdom had a large part to play in the operation including offering basing support to U.S. forces and deploying RFA Tideforce, a Tide-class tanker to the area.

    The Marinera is being accused of international sanctions evasion. As UK Defence Secretary John Healey MP said “ This ship, with a nefarious history, is part of a Russian-Iranian axis of sanctions evasion which is fuelling terrorism, conflict, and misery from the Middle East to Ukraine.”

    Specifically the Bella-1 is sanctioned by the U.S. under its counter-Iran sanctions, sanctions attempting to curtail Iran’s efforts of destabilizing the Middle East. 

    Efforts the ship took to change and hide its identity and throw off its pursuers show that the ship is well connected to the international fleet of shadow ships. The ship already had a Russian flag onboard, likely in case of a scenario like this, or from potential cases in the past where it had changed its identity.

    The Russian’s had reportedly sent a several warships including a submarine to escort the tanker to Russian waters however they never intervened during the seizure. L

    As far as the M/V Sophia. All we know is that the U.S. seized the ship as it was trying to leave Venezuelan waters with its transponder off, attempting to conceal its location. The ship is not registered to any state and was said to be conducting “illicit activities” in Caribbean waters. Its reported destination was China.

    Good afternoon. This is the return of the GCR Daily Briefing. For those who are new this is a daily article I used to do where I pick a couple headlines from around the world and I do a little write up on it. The world is increasingly turbulent  and it’s more important than ever to stay up to date in the events taking place in our world. 

     

    US President Trump orders 1000 national guard to the border. 

    The Pentagon-on the orders of President Donald Trump, has ordered 1,500 troops to join the already 2,500 soldiers to the US and Mexican border.These forces are ordered to “to support the activities of the Secretary of Homeland Security in obtaining complete operational control” and provide troops and supplies. The soldiers will also help build border fortifications and walls. These troops are apart of a larger force of 10,000 that will eventually make it to the border to help Customs and Border Protection (CBP) according to a leaked CBP memo being reported in the press. 

    This is all apart of a larger immigration policy put in place on the Trumps administrations first day in office. Surging troops to the border as well as using DoD bases as makeshift “holding facilities” until ICE can build more facilities. The above mentioned memos show that ICE will be drastically increasing the number of ICE holding facilities. 

    Trumps plan is to use the military to completely seal the border from migrants and asylum seekers. Migrants, who have long come to the U.S. to work in the farm industry will be picked up crossing into the US and deported before being able to ask for asylum or any sort of hearing. 

    At this point the southern border is effectively closed. Even those trying to enter the country legally have been turned away. This policy is likely to affect food prices for a time as the USDA Economic Research Service reported that in agriculture the number of migrant laborers was 59 percent and another 45% in the animal farm industry.

    UK navy shadows Russian spy ship through the English Channel. 

    HMS Somerset shadows Russian Spy ship Yantar.

    This week a Russia Spy ship (technically an oceanography ship),Yantar (also know as Cruys) has been shadowed by the UK Navy this week as the ship made its way through the English Channel. 

    In November this ship had been loitering above the area where several undersea cables were but was surprised by a Royal Navy Submarine when it surfaced near them to let the Yantar crew know that they were being closely monitored and warned them off. The ship left the area for the Mediterranean but returned this week and has been shadowed by the HMS Somerset(F82), a Type 23 Frigate.

    Russian ships have even connected to sabotage of undersea cables in the recent past in the Baltic so no chances are being given in in the English Channel.. The Yantar is equipped with a small submersible that can be used to go down to the ocean floor and tamper with communications and power cables, potentially adding devices to the cables so Russia can access the data. 

    The UK has taken a lead role in countering the threat of Russian attacks on critical undersea infrastructure in the European seas and oceans. They have announced they will send several P-8 Poseidon and Rivet Joint maritime patrol and surveillance aircraft for the Baltic Sentry activity announced after the damage to the ESTLINK2 cable. Baltic Sentry is a NATO mission that aims to bring different maritime and aerial assets into the Baltic area and integrate them into the protection of the area.
